DISC GOLF BASICS
Disc Golf is a fantastic sport that can be as casual or as competitive as you would like it to be. The sport's popularity has grown rapidly since the early 70's when formalization efforts began to take shape. The object of the game is the same as traditional ball golf, where players have a starting point and target (a basket in this case) and must reach the target in as few throw as possible.
- Most courses feature 9 or 18 holes with some having 27 or more
- Most holes are played as a par 3 with distances between 200 and 450 feet however par 4's, 5's and beyond do exist on certain courses
- There are over 40,000 PDGA (Professional Disc Golf Association) members and growing exponentially
- PDGA membership is not required to play the sport causally or to enter some tournaments
- The game is designed to be enjoyed by people of all ages, male and female, regardless of economic status as many courses are free to play
- There are now more than 2,500 courses worldwide, including 1500+ in the USA and Canada
- Today, the tour purse reaches nearly 2 million dollars
